How Much Does Ceramic Coating Cost?
Professional ceramic coating costs roughly $500 to $2,000 at most reputable shops, with the price driven mostly by prep labor and how long the coating is warrantied to last. At our shop in Wexford, ceramic coating starts at $520 for a 3 year coating, $680 for a 5 year coating with paint correction included, and $1,150 for the lifetime package. This post breaks down exactly where that money goes, because ceramic coating cost is one of the most misunderstood numbers in car care.

“From” means the sedan starting point. Larger vehicles and rougher paint move the number up, and we confirm the exact quote at inspection before any work starts. Nobody gets surprised at pickup.
Why the range is so wide
Two coatings quoted $600 apart can use nearly the same bottle of product. The difference is everything around the bottle:
Prep labor is most of the cost. A coating bonds permanently to whatever the surface looks like at application. So before coating, the paint is washed, chemically decontaminated, clay barred, and machine polished. On a typical vehicle that is the majority of the total hours. This is why ceramic coating cost tracks paint condition: a swirled, oxidized daily driver needs hours of correction that a six-month-old garage queen does not.
Coating tier. Longer-rated coatings use more durable chemistry, more layers, or both, and carry longer warranties. The product cost difference is real but modest; the bigger difference between our tiers is how much correction and layering is bundled in.
Vehicle size and complexity. A crew cab truck has half again the surface area of a sedan. Same work, more of it.
The cheap coating trap
You will see coatings advertised for $250, sometimes less. Here is what that price means: little or no paint correction, minimal decontamination, and a fast application. The coating then locks in whatever was on the paint, permanently. Swirls, bonded iron, water spots, all sealed under a hard layer that now requires machine polishing through to fix.
A cheap coating over unprepped paint is not a discount version of the real service. It is a different, worse product that costs more to undo than it cost to buy. If a quote is dramatically below market, the prep is where it was cut, every time.
Cost per year: the fairer comparison
Sticker price is the wrong lens for something that lasts years. Run it as cost per year of protection:
- 3 year coating at $520: about $173 per year
- 5 year coating at $680: about $136 per year
- Hand wax at $70, applied seasonally: $210 or more per year
- 6 month sealant at $500: $1,000 per year
The coating tiers get cheaper per year as you go up, which is why the 5 year package is our most common recommendation for people who keep their cars. What should be in any quote you get
Wherever you shop, a legitimate ceramic coating quote should spell out five things:
- What decontamination is included (wash alone is not prep)
- How much paint correction is included, and what condition qualifies
- The specific coating product and its rated durability
- Warranty terms, including what maintenance keeps it valid
- Cure time before the car sees weather
If a shop cannot answer those, the low price is answering them for you.

Starting prices are honest, but your car’s actual number depends on its paint, and neither of us knows that until someone looks at it under proper light.
