Engine bay detailing, done safely.
Engine bay detailing is a careful degrease and dress of everything under the hood: caked grease and road grime chemically broken down and rinsed off with controlled, low-pressure water, then plastics and hoses dressed so the bay looks maintained rather than merely old. At Wexford Detail it is a $70 add-on to any detail package.
Why bother? A clean engine bay makes leaks visible: fresh oil on a clean block is obvious, while on twenty years of grime it hides until it is a bigger bill. It also matters at resale, where an inspected-looking bay signals a cared-for car to any buyer or dealer appraiser. Done properly it is safe for modern vehicles; done with an open pressure washer it is how alternators die, which is exactly why we do not work that way.
What's included
Who it's for
- Sellers and trade-ins across Wexford and McCandless: an appraiser who opens a clean hood assumes the rest was cared for too.
- Enthusiasts around Gibsonia whose cars get their hoods opened at every cars and coffee.
- High-mileage owners who want new leaks to show up on a clean block instead of hiding in old grime.
Pricing
Engine Bay Cleaning is a flat $70 add-on to any package, most often booked with the Signature Full Detail from $290 (which already includes a lighter engine bay wipe down) or the Exterior Detail from $160. While the hood is up, the other service worth knowing about is headlight restoration at $85 a pair: wet sand plus UV seal that restores clouded lenses and genuinely improves night visibility.
Guides from the shop
Common questions
Is engine bay cleaning safe for my car?
On modern vehicles, yes, when done our way: electronics, fuse boxes, and intakes covered, degreaser doing the work, and only low-pressure rinsing. One honest caveat, reflected in our Terms: on older vehicles, aged and brittle components (cracked wiring insulation, perished hoses) carry inherent risk that no method fully removes. We flag anything concerning before we start.
Why detail an engine bay at all?
Three practical reasons: leaks and failing hoses are visible on a clean engine long before they become breakdowns, mechanics work faster (and happier) in a clean bay, and at sale time it reads as proof of care. The shine is just a bonus.
Can I book engine bay cleaning by itself?
It is built as a $70 add-on to any package rather than a standalone visit, so pair it with anything from an Express Wash & Vac up. If the rest of the car truly needs nothing, get in touch and we will figure out scheduling.
What about foggy headlights while you are under the hood?
Headlight restoration is $85 for the pair: we wet sand the clouded UV-damaged layer and seal the lens against coming back. It is one of the highest value-per-dollar services we offer on cars more than a few years old.
